Where have you all gone?
Maybe Scratch's tumbleweeds prediction was on the money ... or all you all away having truckloads of fun somewhere?
It's going to be interesting to see what gets posted here .... as opposed to the forum. I'm just waiting for someone to post some political diatribe I violently disagree with, then things will get nasty ;)
So anyways, on a more mundate note I qualified for and played in my golf cluub's team matchplay championship last Saturday. 16 pairs qualify, its a knockout type format. It is a really fun and tense way to play golf. Unlike a normal round where one bad hole can wreck your round, if you have a bad hole in matchplay you just lose the hole but can go on to win the next. So you can have the odd bad hole, but you can't afford to fall too far behind or you have to start taking big risks to try and catch up.
Our match was a close one. We went one down on the third but then won 4 and 5 to be one up. Three halved holes, then the bad guys won nine to be all square at the halfway mark. Halved ten, then we won eleven and twelve after I sunk a monster putt .... at least 10 metres .... for par on the twelfth green. We are looking good two up with six to play, but then we immediately lose 13 and 14 to be all square again. But we turn things around and win 15 and 16 to be two up with two to play and we only have to half one of the remaining two to win. I had a par putt on 17 from about 3 metres but missed, the bad guy holed his so we were back to one up with one to play.
If we lose eighteen it will be tied and we'll have to go to a playoff hole. Both my partner and I miss the green (18 is a 140m uphill par 3) ... he's behind a tree and I'm in a greenside bunker with an enormous lip, when I'm in it the green is above my head! I can only see the top third of the flag. The bad guys ... one of them was in trouble but the other was on the edge of the green. Anyway ... I step up and hit my bunker shot to 3 inches from the hole, just about the best bunker shot I've ever played :) :) I par it and he concedes, so we are through to the next round in a fortnight's time.
Great way to play, a lot of fun!
